Marine Robert Lines, aged 21, of 40 Commando Royal Marines, based in Taunton, Somerset, returned home in October to Longmoor Road, Banners Gate, after a seven month tour of duty in Sangin Valley, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. His proud parents, Lucy and John, neighbours and friends, welcomed him home with banners to say well done. Robert, who was educated at St. Annes RC School in Streetly, St Francis of Assisi in Aldridge, was a keen footballer playing for the first local Banners Gate FC team and in Sutton premier league football before joining the Royal Marines as a recruit for 32 weeks of intensive training at the RM centre in Lympstone, Devon, where he successfully passed for duty on Friday 5th June 2009. After a long and hard tour of duty where some of his friends and comrades were injured, and some who have sadly not returned, he is looking forward to his medal parade march through Taunton and a well deserved holiday. Well Done!
